Campomulo, WOC relays and leaving Asiago

Everyone went up the Campomulo valley north of Gallio today, for the last event of the 5daysof Italy (shortish courses) and the WOC relays afterwards. The times will be on the websites for those who follow the detail, but we think NZ women came about 20th.  Don't know about the men's relay yet.
Yes, there was a shower or two!

Our start was by a farm (mulga=the summer grazing). They set up a cheese and salami stall near the finish and did brisk business. Some knife!
Slicing rolls for sandwiches
And hunks of cheese...
But that was a mature (vecchia) cheese and quite hard. If one wanted a taste first he sliced a wee bit and offered it on the blade of the knife - mind your fingers! Asiago district is known for cheese, much of it of a softer milder variety but all good.

In the main square of Asiago is this strange statue of a helmeted man riding a deer (? stag with no antlers?) and this is depicted elsewhere in the town but haven't discovered the legend behind it, yet!

The road sign looks much the same without the rider!

Another statue is of emigrants, but not sure when this relates to, maybe post war when unemployment was high.

Tonight the place is full of "military" - men in Austrian type hats but longer front brim with large feather sticking up from band and lots of different badges. No actual uniforms. We only saw the end of what must have been a big parade with a band, we think the Alpini brigades doing some sort of commemoration.
And so we will leave Asiago tomorrow, Sunday.
